The Correctional Officer manages and supervises the inmates in a correctional facility. The successful candidate will have experience in the criminal justice system and familiarity with work in a corrections environment. Correctional Officers are responsible for managing inmates and observing the activities of jail inmates, keeping a record of all activities, maintaining security and preventing disturbances.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with diverse groups including inmates, family members, visitors, volunteers, and community representatives.
- Identify and control hazards to ensure a safe environment for inmates, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Maintain a safe environment for inmates by monitoring assigned areas for people and contraband.
- Intervene if there is a situation that involves an inmate or visitor that could lead to injury or damage to property.
- Report inappropriate situations to supervisors and follow the action plan.
- Identify and report problems with cell blocks, corridors, and other areas of the facility.
